Built to Compete. Driven to Succeed.

At Greenwood High School, athletics are about more than the final score.

GHS student-athletes learn to compete with discipline, represent their school with pride, work toward a common goal, and respond to both success and adversity with character. Across generations, Greenwood athletes and coaches have built a tradition marked by championships, individual excellence, memorable teams, and opportunities that extend far beyond high school.

Hosting 25 athletic teams, championship-caliber programs, accomplished coaches, and newly modernized athletic facilities, Greenwood provides students with opportunities to compete, grow, lead, and become part of something bigger than themselves.

Athletes from the SWAMP have gone on to play at both the college and professional levels. Some even return to their home turf as coaches.

This is Greenwood High School. We are Gator Athletics.

A Tradition of Champions

KHSAA Records

Since opening the doors in 1990, Gator athletes have represented their school at the highest levels of Kentucky high school competition.

Greenwood's five KHSAA team state championships include:

  • 2001 Girls Cross Country State Champions
  • 2007 Softball State Champions
  • 2008 Softball State Champions
  • 2013 Softball State Champions — 44-0
  • 2019 Girls Soccer State Champions

But Greenwood's athletic tradition reaches well beyond those five championships.

Gator teams have earned state runner-up finishes, Final Four appearances, regional championships, district championships, individual state titles, All-State recognition, and countless postseason appearances across a wide range of sports.

From historic championship teams to the Gators competing today, excellence remains part of the expectation.

Athletic Hall of Fame

Championships are remembered because people make them possible.

The Greenwood High School Athletic Hall of Fame preserves and celebrates the athletes, coaches, teams, and contributors who have helped shape the history of Gator Athletics.

Honorees include state championship teams, record-setting athletes, legendary coaches, collegiate competitors, professional athletes, and individuals whose contributions established the foundation for today's programs.

Their achievements connect today's student-athletes to the generations of Gators who competed before them.

Our history matters. Our tradition continues.

Champion Alumni

Built for the Next Generation

A major modernization of the school's campus has transformed the environment available to today's student-athletes and coaches.

The expanded athletic complex includes features such as:

  • A new Health and Wellness Athletic Facility
  • Modern strength and conditioning space
  • New and updated locker rooms
  • An approximately 105-by-160-foot indoor turf training area
  • Golf simulation space
  • Synthetic turf athletic fields
  • Updated grandstand and spectator areas
  • Improved press facilities
  • Upgraded athletic lighting

These spaces give Gator student-athletes more opportunities to train, prepare, recover, compete, and develop throughout the year.

The investment reflects Greenwood's commitment not only to its athletic history, but to the generations of Gators still to come.
